Step-by-Step Instructions for Homemade Stuffing
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9×9-inch baking dish, or opt for a 9×13-inch dish if you're doubling the recipe.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt ¾ cup of butter and add in 1 cup of diced onions and 1 cup of diced celery. Sauté for 20 to 30 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of poultry seasoning, 1 teaspoon of marjoram, 1 teaspoon of sage, and 1 teaspoon of parsley.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together 3 large eggs and 3 cups of chicken broth until fully blended. Set aside.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, add 10 cups of stale bread cubes. Pour the sautéed vegetable mixture over the bread and stir gently.
  6. Add the egg and broth mixture to the bread and vegetable combination. Toss until all ingredients are evenly coated.
  7. Pour the stuffing mixture into your prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Dot with 2 tablespoons of butter.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  9. For a crispy finish, broil for 1 to 2 minutes, being careful not to burn.
