Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together ½ cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add 3 large eggs, one at a time, beat well after each addition.
  4. Mix in 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of lemon zest.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Gradually mix these into your wet ingredients, alternating with ¾ cup of milk.
  6. Pour batter into a greased cake pan and spread evenly.
  7. Spoon ½ cup of lemon custard over the batter.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
