Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Blend thoroughly.
  2. Add 1 cup of cold, unsalted butter cut into cubes. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and ⅓ cup of sour cream until a rough dough forms.
  4. Sprinkle in ¼ teaspoon of baking powder and mix until just combined. Wrap the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangular shape about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Spread 1 cup of apple pie filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  8. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon over the apple pie filling.
  9. Roll the dough over the filling to create a horseshoe shape and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Pinch the edges to seal the filling inside. Brush with an egg wash if desired.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  12. Whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 teaspoons of milk until smooth for the glaze.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the kringle once it has cooled slightly. Slice and serve.
