Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Gingerbread Man Cookies
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of ground ginger, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until they are evenly mixed.
- In a separate bowl, beat ¾ cup of softened unsalted butter and ¾ cup of brown sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Next, mix in ¾ cup of molasses, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture.
- Gradually add the prepared dry ingredients to the wet mixture using a spatula until a cohesive dough forms.
- Divide the dough into two equal halves and wrap each half tightly in plastic wrap. Place them in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Allow one half of the chilled dough to soften slightly on the counter for about 10 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one half of the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick using cookie cutters to cut out fun gingerbread man shapes.
- Slide the baking sheet into the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes. Once done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- After allowing the cookies to cool for about 5 minutes, carefully transfer them to a wire rack for complete cooling.
- Once your cookies are completely cool, decorate them with icing and assorted candies to your heart’s content.

Notes
Chilling the dough for at least 2 hours helps prevent spreading and ensures your cookies hold their shape during baking.
