  • 1 teaspoon Red food coloring Gel coloring preferred

Step-By-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla and peppermint extracts to the mixture and blend until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide dough into two halves and mix red food coloring into one half.
  6. Roll 1 teaspoon of each colored dough into 4-inch ropes and twist them together to form candy cane shapes.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the bottoms are lightly golden.
  8. Let cool for about 5 minutes on the baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack.
