  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for sautéing
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup beef broth to keep moist
  • ¼ cup milk optional for creaminess
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

For Garnish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped

Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • knife

Method

Step‑By‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and thinly slice the potatoes to about ¼-inch thickness.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef and season with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
  5. Spread half of the beef mixture over the potatoes evenly.
  6. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  7. Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, beef, and cheese.
  8. Pour beef broth over the casserole, adding milk if desired. Cover with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  9. Remove foil, top with remaining Parmesan cheese, and bake uncovered for 10 more minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes and then garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
