Step-by-Step Instructions for Brunswick Stew
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, pour in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and allow it to shimmer for about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add one diced onion to the hot oil, stirring frequently for about 5-7 minutes until the onions become soft and translucent.
  3. Introduce 3 cups of your chosen meat into the pot with the onions and cook for about 8-10 minutes until the meat is nicely browned.
  4. Stir in 2 cups of diced tomatoes, 1 cup of corn, 1 cup of lima beans, and 1 cup of diced potatoes into the pot.
  5. Incorporate 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of paprika, and 1 teaspoon of chili powder into the pot.
  6. Pour in enough water or broth to cover the ingredients by about an inch—roughly 4-6 cups and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the stew simmer for about 2 hours.
  8. After two hours, taste your Brunswick Stew and adjust the seasonings if needed before serving.
