Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a greased baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, powdered sugar, and butter until crumbly. Add the egg and vanilla, mix until dough forms.
  3. Press the dough into the bottom of the baking pan evenly to create a compact layer.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
  5. In a saucepan, combine milk and sugar over medium heat until steaming.
  6. Whisk egg yolks and cornstarch in a separate bowl until smooth.
  7. Gradually whisk warm milk into egg mixture to temper the yolks.
  8. Return mixture to saucepan and stir constantly over medium heat until thickened.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Pour the custard over the cooled crust and spread evenly.
  11. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill and set.
