Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour in boiling water gradually and mix until smooth, batter will be thin.
  6. Add in orange zest and juice to the batter, and mix until incorporated.
  7. Gently fold in chocolate chips using a spatula.
  8. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. Spread ganache between layers, and on top of the cake once cooled.
  12. Garnish with fresh orange slices before serving.
