  1. Rinse the rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear, then drain well.

  3. Add the sliced smoked sausage to the skillet, cooking for about 5–7 minutes until browned.
  4. Stir in the chopped onion and bell pepper, cooking for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  5. Add minced garlic, paprika, cumin, and chili powder, cooking for 1–2 minutes.
  6. Mix in the rinsed rice until well-coated with oil and spices.
  7. Pour in chicken broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover to simmer for 15 minutes.
  8. Fold in the rinsed black beans, cover, and let rest for 5 minutes to warm through.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve warm garnished with cilantro.
